▶ CHARACTER INFO.
CHARACTER NAME: Vash the Stampede
CHARACTER AGE: 150
CANON: Trigun Stampede
CANON POINT: Episode 10, just as he's being dropped into the plant tank.
CRAU INFO: N / A.

SUITABILITY: For a start, Vash has been around for a very, very long time; a century and half spent on a planet that was, perhaps, not meant to sustain human life gave him all the time in the world to watch the people on the crashed ships learn how to fend for themselves, and even thrive ( as well as one can on a desert planet, that is ) after a while, even if they were using the Plants to ensure their survival. On the whole, he cares so much about humanity that he only wants them to be able to take care of themselves and look after one another, which translates into his own willingness to do anything in his power to help them. No matter what it may end up costing him.

He generally prefers to resolve things peacefully, and he may hesitate to even think of turning to any kind of violence unless there are no other alternatives but that means he is resourceful and the opposite of impulsive when it comes to figuring things out. He cherishes all life, even that of the monsters he's going to end up going after, but when it comes to both preserving life and neutralizing any perceived threat, he'll understand ultimately that civilians must be protected at all costs and will not hesitate to do what needs to be done. ( He may feel a little bad about it later, because monsters gonna monster and they're just doing what they were born to do, but that's just the kind of person he is. )

He's incredibly intelligent and very good at problem-solving, and while the technology here isn't quite what he has experience with where he's from, having any experience with it at all means it won't take much at all to find him acclimating to a new setting; he was born in space, and I like to think that may give him a considerable advantage in the sense of feeling more comfortable with his surroundings. He's adaptive, able to roll with whatever might come in his direction and proceed however he needs to, and something like that is pretty pivotal when it comes to suddenly finding oneself in a completely different setting.

Above all, he knows how to work well with others and tries to make friends while he's doing it, and his sense of morality keeps him on the right path to making the right decisions — at least in his own mind and heart, and he honestly just wants to do as much good as he possibly can.

PERSONALITY TRAITS: ( + )
— incredibly kind to everyone, despite how he might be treated; that isn't something that matters to him
— willing to stop and help anyone that might need it, regardless of what it might require of him
— loyal to humanity as a whole, even if they will never accept him as what he truly is; he just wants to see humans thrive
— generally a pretty upbeat, happy guy with a sunny disposition, but please see below for an explanation of why that is also a bit of a negative trait

( - )
— a large chunk of his happy-go-lucky demeanor is a mask for how hurt and lonely he is on the inside, and he refuses to let anyone see that side of him
— despite desperately wanting to connect with people and make friends, he tends to keep them all at arm's length, because he's terribly afraid of letting anyone get too close to him; that's never going to end well as long as his brother is on his heels
— downright refuses to kill any of his opponents, not only because he would prefer to resolve things in a peaceful way, but he doesn't think anyone has the right to choose whether or not someone lives or dies. this is why his body is nothing but a map of scars from all the years he's spent as a pacifist
— self-sacrificial; he very clearly states in episode twelve that he doesn't care what happens to him as long as humanity survives and thrives; he doesn't care that they don't accept him now, he'll keep running and running and running for an entire lifetime until he can settle down by their side again, until he can be with them, because that's one of the only things that matters to him at the bottom of it all
— here's an extra one because i can't leave it out; he's a giant crybaby, and has a tendency to try to cry his way out of situations if he thinks he can get away with it; it doesn't work very often, but he can turn on the waterworks at the drop of a hat

PERSONALITY REFERENCE: Boop.

POWERS & SKILLS: Lord have mercy on me here we go because there is so much less to go on with what we've seen of Stampede than the OG Trigun.
→ On the whole, Plants are human-adjacent-looking things that are contained in pods and used for their energy to create things like water, just about any sort of power you could think of and as such have a tendency to be pushed beyond their boundaries, their limitations and sent to an early death in a way referred to as a Last Run; they use a single remaining surge of energy and the flame of their life is snuffed out.
→ Plants live an insanely long time, as said by Zazie the Beast near the end of the series a century is pretty much just a blink for them. Must be super nice to be over a hundred years old and still look like you're fresh out of college.
→ They're possessed of abilities within the realm of inhuman strength, dexterity and intelligence, as well as healing capabilities without the aid of things like … well, first aid. Slap a bandaid on it? Styptic to stop the bleeding? Nah, just wait a little bit and it'll all be okay.
→ They also don't need to eat, drink or sleep. Except for Vash. He's essentially like a normal human being in this way.
→ They also have things known as 'gates', which is seen in a flashback episode when Knives cuts off his own brother's arm in order to keep it from sucking everything around him into it; it's like a damned black hole, for lack of better phrasing, and also the source of a Plant's power.
→ Vash and Knives are known as Independents, and being an Independent means he also has the gift of free will, of being able to make his own choices and follow his own path and not live so confined as an effective conduit for humanity.

NERFED POWERS: I don't think he has any powers that specifically need nerfing — but because he doesn't have conscious control of his gate, maybe its power should be reduced? ( I don't have any intention of using his gate at any point, but. You know. Better safe than sorry. )

PERSONAL ITEM: His trademark red coat; there is nothing inherently special about it save for the fact that it was a gift from Luida Leitner after he'd been on Ship Three for a while, and it's incredibly important to him both because it made him feel like he finally had a place to call home, and it reminds him of Rem because of its bright red color. ( It was her favorite, and makes him feel connected to her despite her absence. )
ALTERNATE IDENTITY: Eriks Saverem, employed at one of the hole-in-the-wall eateries that serves anything close to a baked good. There will be donuts.
CODE NAME CHOICE: I would definitely choose the name peacebringer myself because it would be something he's pleased with, but since I am also a terrible person and like to torture my characters … I would not object to something that poked fun. Like crybaby. But y'all can go nuts.

SAMPLES: network-type thread / action thread; but since i'm having an absolute blast still tagging it, his tdm top-level
